Single-Minded Calabasas Girls Serve San Marino a 14-4 Loss

Calabasas High didn’t lose a game in singles play and handled San Marino, 14-4, in a nonleague girls’ tennis match on Thursday at Calabasas.

Celia Durkin, Erin Everly and Monica Weisener each breezed through their sets for the Coyotes in a rematch of last year’s Southern Section Division IV final, which Calabasas won, 10-8.

San Marino defeated Calabasas in the 1998 final.

Peninsula 17, Harvard-Westlake 1--Stephanie Berg beat Christian Selian, 6-3, at No. 1 singles, but the Wolverines (0-1), defending Southern Section Division III champions, were swept in doubles at Studio City Golf and Tennis.

Peninsula, two-time defending Division I champion, won 106 of 143 games.

Simi Valley 11, Oxnard 7--The No. 1 team of Jessica Nguyen and Cathrine Caballero won three sets, 6-2, 6-2, 6-4, to lead a doubles sweep by the Pioneers (5-2) in a nonleague victory at Simi Valley.

Hart 12, Glendale 6--Cristina Cancio won, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles to spark the Indians (1-4) in a nonleague victory at Glendale.

Agoura 11, Royal 7--Freshman Yassie Entekhabi swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and the Chargers (3-2, 2-1) won a Marmonte League match at Agoura.

San Fernando 6, Crenshaw 1--Valerie Mendoza and Karina Rojas at No. 1, Annette Mendoz and Stephanie Camarino at No. 2, and Claudia Arroyo and Kristine Rena at No. 3 each won their sets as the Tigers (2-0) swept in doubles play in a nonleague match at Crenshaw.

Reseda 4, Alemany 3--No. 1 Chureeporn Arunrut won, 8-5, and the Regents (1-1) swept singles play at Reseda.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Notre Dame 121, Harvard-Westlake 128--Nikki Imaromna recorded a birdie and six consecutive pars on her way to a one-over-par 38 for Notre Dame in a Mission League battle of undefeated teams at Woodley Lakes Golf Course.

Erinn Roundtree shot 41 and freshman Mayumi Kobayashi finished at 42 for the Knights (5-0, 4-0), who set a team record for their lowest round.

Harvard-Westlake (3-1, 3-1) was without Ina Kim, who finished second in the U.S. girls’ junior championship and plays a limited schedule for the Wolverines.

Thousand Oaks 128, Camarillo 148--Rebecca Norris toured Sunset Hills Country Club in one-over-par 36 and Thousand Oaks (5-1) turned back Camarillo (3-1).

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Sylmar def. Poly. 15-5, 15-6, 15-4--Stephanie Cisneros had nine kills and four blocks, and Barbara Smiley had 16 assists and seven digs for the Spartans (2-0), ranked No. 7 in the region by The Times.

La Reina def. Nordhoff, 15-4, 15-5, 15-6--Jennifer Ryan had 18 kills and 10 digs, and Ashley Hain had eight kills, 27 assists and eight digs for No. 2 La Reina at Nordhoff.

Oxnard def. Camarillo 15-13, 15-5, 15-4--Verity Somers had nine kills and five blocks, and Sarah Morrison had 18 kills for the Yellowjackets (3-1, 1-0) in a Pacific View League victory at Oxnard.

Village Christian def. Crescenta Valley, 15-10, 15-12, 15-1--Maria Abaca had nine kills and 10 digs, and Heather Fieldsteel had 18 assists for the Crusaders (12-0) at Village Christian.

Ventura def. Buena, 15-3, 15-5, 8-15, 15-6--Elena DeAlba had 10 kills with eight blocks and the No. 6 Cougars (3-0) won a nonleague match at Ventura.
