Estrada of Sylmar Beats Monroe With One-Hitter, 4-0

Marco Estrada of Sylmar High pitched 6 1/3 hitless innings and the Spartans beat Monroe, 4-0, in a Valley Mission League baseball game Wednesday at Monroe.

Estrada (7-1), who finished with a one-hitter, struck out three, walked three and hit three batters. Graham Clancy broke up the no-hitter with a one-out single in the seventh inning.

Hector Chavez and Mike Garcia each had two hits for Sylmar (14-5, 6-2 in league play).

Monroe is 4-14, 1-6.

Lancaster 7, Palmdale 6--Tyler Bain’s sacrifice fly in the seventh gave the Eagles a Golden League victory at Lancaster.

Palmdale (7-7-1, 4-4) tied it, 6-6, in the sixth with a three-run double by Rob Arellano.

Art Ortiz of Lancaster (14-4-1, 7-1) led off a five-run fourth inning with his eighth home run and Jason Anderson capped the scoring with a two-run double. Ortiz and Anderson each had two hits.

San Fernando 4, Van Nuys 1--Danny Salazar and Aldo Montalvan each had two hits for the Tigers (19-4, 8-0) in a Valley Mission League game at San Fernando.

Antelope Valley 10, Quartz Hill 8--Carlos Rosales hit a three-run home run during a four-run second for the Antelopes in a Golden League game at Quartz Hill.

Gavin Brandon had a single, double and a home run for Quartz Hill (10-8, 6-2).

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Foothill 5, Simi Valley 1--The Pioneers scored an earned run in the fifth on Jenni Shields’ single but lost to the nation’s top-ranked team in a Gold Division semifinal of the Righetti tournament.

Courtney Fossatti (12-1) of Foothill (20-1) pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10.

Simi Valley (9-8-1) lost to Cajon, 2-1, in the third-place game.

Moorpark 5, Fremont Mission 0--Michelle Willette had three hits and Tara Barker hit a two-run double for the Musketeers (12-9) in the Bronze Division championship game of the Righetti tournament.

La Canada 5, South Pasadena 0--Annalise Rodli had two hits for the Spartans (11-1-1, 7-0), who recorded their 25th consecutive Rio Hondo League victory in a game at South Pasadena.

La Canada’s streak dates to 1999 and equals a school-record streak from 1992-95.

MEN’S GOLF

Western State Conference Match No. 10--Chad Wensel and Daisuke Sakurai each shot three-under-par 62 to help Moorpark win at Tierra Rejada Golf Club in Moorpark.

The Raiders finished with 370 strokes and are tied for third with Ventura in conference play with 36 points.

Canyons, which leads in conference play with 54 points, was second at 373.
