Narbonne Pulls Away in Phoenix

A big run at the end of the second quarter preceded a big second half for the Harbor City Narbonne High girls’ basketball team in a 56-45 victory against Central (Tenn.) in a Phoenix Tournament of Champions Gray Division first-round game Thursday.

The Gauchos trailed, 25-15, with 1:30 left in the second quarter, but went on a 9-0 run to end the half.

Camille Lenoir scored 17 points and Amber Fouse had 12 for Narbonne (5-1), the top-ranked team in the region by The Times and the two-time defending state Division I champion.

Lynwood 62, Jackson County (Tenn.) 57--Sade Wiley-Gatewood had 25 points for second-ranked Lynwood (6-0) in a Phoenix Tournament of Champions Black Division game.

Lynwood trailed, 15-9, after the first quarter, but outscored Jackson County (8-2) over the next two quarters, 27-18.

Elizabeth Seton (Md.) 56, San Clemente 52--Lindsey Pluimer scored 28 points for fourth-ranked San Clemente (8-2) in a Phoenix Tournament of Champions White Division game.

San Clemente led, 43-41, after the third quarter, but couldn’t hold off Elizabeth Seton (4-1).

Redondo 51, Los Altos Pinewood 41--Brittany Grice had 16 points and nine rebounds for 12th-ranked Redondo (3-2) in a Phoenix Tournament of Champions Blue Division game.

Redondo outscored Pinewood (3-1) in the third quarter, 18-5.

In boys’ basketball:

Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley 59, Los Alamitos 58--Jake Frazen hit a 12-foot shot with 7.4 seconds left to cap 25th-ranked Capistrano Valley’s comeback victory in a quarterfinal of the Anaheim Convention Center tournament.

Pete DeCasas scored 26 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, for Capistrano Valley, which trailed by 14 late in the third quarter.

Frazen had 17 points for the Cougars.

Mark Lotman had 16 points for Los Alamitos.

Anaheim Katella 71, Mission Viejo 65--Chris Alva scored 18 points and Jeff Clement had 16 points as Katella (9-1) built a 20-point halftime lead, then hung on for the upset victory in a quarterfinal of the Anaheim Convention Center tournament.

Travis Niesen scored 19 points for 16th-ranked Mission Viejo (7-1).
