SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Midfielder Katie McCurdy of Westlake High finally got to keep her cleats and shin guards on.

In the last five games, McCurdy and other starters were pulled early in the second half after the Warriors took commanding leads. They took off their gear, put on their warm-ups and watched the rest of the game from the bench.

Westlake was tested for this first time since a 2-2 tie with Chaminade on Dec. 2. Sara Silver-Hill scored in the 64th minute to give the Warriors a 3-2 Marmonte League victory over Agoura on Friday.

The Warriors (8-0-3, 4-0 in league play), two-time defending Marmonte champions, are the only undefeated team in the region.

“Every single game I’ve taken my stuff off the last 30 minutes of the game,” McCurdy said. “I usually have my shoes on like I’m ready to go home. I actually got to play [Friday].

“I think our confidence got shot down. This is the first game we’ve been challenged. We have to get our act together.”

Goals by Jenna Ainsworth and Kelly Cochran gave Westlake a 2-0 halftime lead.

After being held to one shot in the first half and absorbing 11 shots by the Warriors, Agoura came out playing aggressively in the second half.

Heather Sims and Rocky Caprarella scored to tie the game.

“All I know is I wanted to beat Westlake so bad,” said senior defender Megan Rivetti. “My whole high school career we have never been able to beat them. “I knew we had it in us to give them a fight.

“In the second half, we pressured them a lot more and tried not to let them turn with the ball. We played them tighter.”
