King’s Lea Signs to Play Basketball at Pepperdine

Riverside King guard Marvin Lea, a Times’ All-Star and player of the year in the Inland Empire, signed with Pepperdine on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-3 Lea led King to the state Division II title in its second varsity season by averaging 25.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists.

King teammate Leon Rosborough, a 6-5 forward who averaged 16 points, signed with Vanguard.

In other signings:

* Keion Kindred, a Times’ all-region player from Compton Dominguez, has signed with Texas El Paso. The 6-4 guard averaged 23 points, nine assists and eight rebounds as a senior and was part of three state Division II championship teams.

* Kevin Gardner, a 6-8 forward from Peninsula who was selected Bay League MVP, has signed with Boston. He averaged 22 points and eight rebounds last season.

* Jenni Dooley, a Times’ all-region girls’ basketball player from Ventura, has signed with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The 5-9 guard averaged 18.6 points to help Ventura win the Southern Section Division II-AA championship.

* Katie Card, a second-team Southern Section Division I girls’ water polo player at Santa Ana Foothill, signed with California. Card helped the Knights win their third consecutive section title.

* Jeff Gross, a second-team Southern Section Division I goalkeeper for the North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake boys’ water polo team, has signed with Cal. Gross led the Wolverines to the section final this season.

* Jonathan Todd, a 6-8 forward from West Hills Chaminade, has committed to play basketball at the University of Chicago.
