Juvenile Contenders Will Go to Trial Tonight

Thirty 2-year-olds will try to qualify for the finals of the California Juvenile Challenge on Aug. 31 in three trials tonight.

The trials will be the seventh, eighth and ninth races, and the 10 fastest times in the 350-yard races will move on to the finals.

In the seventh, Classic Sassy Chic is the 9-5 favorite on Ed Burgart’s morning line.

Owned by Jackie and Rod MacPherson and trained by Felix Gonzalez, the daughter of A Classic Dash has won two in a row.

Stel Corona, a troubled fifth as the public choice in her last race on July 13, is the 2-1 morning line choice in the second trial. She is owned by Paul Jones and John Sperry and trained by Jones.

In the final trial, Secretary For Life is the 9-5 morning line favorite. Owned by Vessels Stallion Farm and trained by Danny Cardoza, the Apollo filly got her first win in her second start.

Shots in the dark: Weeps shortens up for trainer Daniel Luna in the fifth. Lender was impressive in her first win and could come right back in the eighth.
