Basketball Tournament Features Top Matchups

The California Hoop Challenge Saturday at Lynwood High features eight boys’ and girls’ basketball matchups of top teams.

The Los Angeles Price boys’ team plays Verbum Dei, No. 19 in The Times’ rankings, at 9 a.m. The Torrance Bishop Montgomery boys play Fresno Washington Union at 10:30 a.m., followed by the No. 9 Brea Olinda girls against top-ranked Lynwood at noon. That game is followed by the No. 6 Artesia girls against No. 2 Harbor City Narbonne at 1:30 p.m.

The afternoon/evening session, which begins with a matchup between No. 6 Eisenhower and defending state Division I runner-up Modesto Christian at 3:30 p.m., features all boys’ teams. Compton Dominguez plays Fresno San Joaquin Memorial at 5 p.m., followed by Redondo Union against No. 5 Inglewood at 6:30 p.m., then No. 14 Crenshaw against Northern California power Concord De La Salle at 8 p.m.
