* The Southern Section record for consecutive league victories hung in the balance last Wednesday, when Boron trailed Lancaster Desert Christian by two runs going into the sixth inning. The Bobcats rallied to win, 3-2, extending their record to 113 consecutive Desert Mountain League victories. Stephanie Sheasley’s two-out single in the seventh drove in her twin, Samantha, with the winning run.

* San Bernardino Cajon’s Nicole Kajitani broke a 10-year-old school record Thursday by extending her hitting streak to 16 games in an 8-0 San Andreas League victory over San Bernardino Arroyo Valley.

HIGHLIGHTS

* Harbor City Narbonne’s Sarah Maciel and L.A. Washington’s Ta’Tyana McElroy combined for 63 strikeouts in a 16-inning Marine League game Thursday. Maciel struck out 35, a City Section record, for the Gauchos, who won, 1-0, when Jocelyn Cuevas walked, stole two bases and scored on a wild pitch.

LOOKING AHEAD

* Marmonte League showdowns are routine this time of year and No. 15 Westlake Village Westlake has two this week. The Warriors play host to No. 7 Simi Valley today and travel Thursday to play No. 17 Thousand Oaks.

* In the Foothill League, No. 11 Newhall Hart is host to No. 4 Valencia Thursday, then opens play Friday in the Thousand Oaks tournament by playing host to No. 5 Simi Valley Royal.
