Los Alamitos will forfeit its season-opening football tie against Newhall Hart for failure to submit paperwork involving three transfer players to the Southern Section office in a timely manner, Principal Dan Brooks said.

Following the 21-21 tie against the Indians, the Griffins went on to win the Division I title and finished unbeaten, but their final record will now stand at 13-1.

Brooks said the school has two new athletic directors and a new athletic administrator who did not realize the paperwork had to be submitted before the season opener because the players had submitted transfer applications the previous school year utilizing interdistrict permits.

“It’s a lesson learned by our new athletic administrators that I’m sure will not be repeated,” Brooks said.
