San Jose Wins With Record Day

Kevin McKenzie tied a league playoff record with six touchdowns to help the defending champion San Jose SaberCats defeat the Georgia Force, 69-48, at San Jose in front of 10,072 in an Arena Football League quarterfinal playoff game.

McKenzie caught three passes for 91 yards and three touchdowns, had two one-yard runs for touchdowns, returned a kickoff for a touchdown and recovered a fumble. He had scored only four touchdowns this season before Saturday.

Mark Grieb completed 18 of 23 passes for 318 yards and four touchdowns with one interception for the SaberCats (13-4).

Leon Murray completed 21 of 38 passes for 203 yards and five touchdowns for the Force (9-9).

Tampa Bay 52, Detroit 48 -- Omarr Smith intercepted a fourth-down pass in the end zone with 35 seconds remaining to help the Storm win in front of 12,322 at Tampa, Fla.

Detroit (9-9) drove to the Tampa Bay 13-yard line before stalling. The Storm (13-4) then ran out the clock after converting a third and three on John Kaleo’s eighth-yard completion to David Saunders.

Kaleo threw six touchdown passes and completed 20 of 32 for 269 yards and teammate Freddie Solomon caught eight passes for 141 yards and three touchdowns.
