Metallic Lion Goes for Governor’s Cup Spot

Metallic Lion, second to Hawkish in the Kindergarten Futurity on May 17, is among 54 2-year-olds who will be trying to qualify tonight for the Governor’s Cup Futurity.

There will be seven 350-yard trials and the 10 fastest qualifiers will return for the $342,500 Futurity on June 21.

Owned by the Anjora Corporation and trained by Paul Jones, Metallic Lion won his first two starts before missing by three-quarters of a length at 7-1 in the Kindergarten. He will break from Post 5 in the fifth trial.

A Very Kool Chick, the highly regarded filly out of the champion mare Corona Kool, will attempt to rebound from a disappointing debut in the night’s first trial. Trained by Donna McArthur for Lucas Racing Inc., the gray finished sixth at 7-10 in her bow May 3.

Four! Single Wannaknowme in the first, use A Very Kool Chick, Rodeoin Roxy and Dream Dollars in the second, Honor And Cherish and A Summer Time Gal in the third, and Chicksdashin, Durango Outlaw and Devoted Word in the fourth.

Shots in the dark: Aurora Star Sa has been troubled in her first two races and is hoping for a clean trip in the fifth. Go Sharp debuts in a soft spot in the ninth.
