Major League Baseball suspended seven players and Manager Larry Bowa of the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday for their roles in bench-clearing brawls last week.

Phillie pitcher Carlos Silva was suspended for six games and Cincinnati Red teammates Adam Dunn and Sean Casey for three games each. Silva was disciplined for intentionally throwing at Dunn, touching off the brawl.

Casey and Silva appealed and will not serve their suspensions until after hearings are held. Dunn negotiated his suspension down to two games and began serving it Friday.

Bowa was suspended for one game because a warning had been issued to Silva by the umpires. Bowa will serve the suspension today against Boston.

Marlon Anderson and Carl Crawford of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays were suspended for three games each for fighting during a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pirate pitcher Julian Tavarez and catcher Jason Kendall also drew three-game suspensions.

Kendall and Anderson appealed. Tavarez and Crawford will begin their suspensions Monday.

All seven players and Bowa also were fined undisclosed amounts.

Four other players -- pitcher Jose Mesa and catcher Todd Pratt of the Phillies and pitcher Joe Kennedy and outfielder Al Martin of Tampa Bay -- were fined.

Jose Canseco was arrested at his Florida home after testing positive for steroids, a violation of his probation stemming from a nightclub brawl.

The former American League most valuable player, who had been under house arrest for earlier violating probation, was being held at Broward County jail without bond, pending a court appearance. He probably will have a hearing Monday or Tuesday, officials said.
