Magic Number Is Six

Share

Bettors who like to play the pick six only when there is a carry-over are in luck today.

Not only does Hollywood Park have a carry-over of $174,449, Churchill Downs has an even bigger one -- $329,989 -- after the pick six went untouched for the sixth consecutive day.

In Inglewood, the horse most likely to be a pick six single is Ask Not, who will be favored in the fifth, a $51,000-optional claimer at six furlongs.

Claimed for $20,000 by trainer Bill Spawr for owner Kenneth McKay on Jan. 3, the Sharp Victor filly has won three of four starts since and all of the wins have come at Hollywood Park.

A 4-year-old bred in California by Marvin Malmuth, Ask Not hasn’t been challenged in any of her local races. She beat $20,000 claimers by 3 1/2 lengths on April 27, won a state-bred allowance by 3 1/2 lengths on May 16, then beat open allowance company by three on June 1.

The potential is great for a huge payoff at Churchill Downs or another carry-over into Thursday. The races have large fields -- 70 horses were entered in the six races -- and are wide open.

Race of the day: Arabic Song, who has earned both of her U.S. wins on the Hollywood Park turf course, is among six fillies and mares entered in today’s seventh, a $58,000 allowance at 1 1/16 miles on the grass. Corey Nakatani will ride Arabic Song for trainer Neil Drysdale.

One for the road: Jazz Fest Weekend split the field in a tougher maiden race at Hollywood Park in his last start and should relish 1 1/2 miles on the grass in the 10th at Churchill Downs. Leading jockey Cornelio Velasquez will ride.

Exotically speaking: A pick four singling Ask Not in the fifth, using Mighty Forum, Kissy Kat, Perfect Miss and Miss Buona Sera in the sixth, Adalgisa and Arabic Song in the seventh and Legendary Traitors, Lago Maggiore and Graydon Grey in the eighth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/123. Money: Previous day/meet total: $11.80/$656.80. Total money bet: $774.
