Ex-Claremont Forward Austin Picks Mater Dei

Rashad Austin, a 6-foot-7 forward, has enrolled at Santa Ana Mater Dei after playing last season at Claremont.

Austin, considered one of the top junior players in Southern California, played this summer with Compton Dominguez.

Curtis Allen, a 6-4 senior guard who was the state Division V player of the year, has transferred from Rolling Hills Prep to Long Beach Poly.

Poly Athletic Director Joe Carlson said Allen, who averaged 21.6 points and nine rebounds last season, checked into school.

Ryen Carew, who was dismissed from the Sylmar football team two weeks ago, has enrolled at Tujunga Verdugo Hills, Coach Darrin Fitzgerald said.

Carew is the top returning rusher in the City Section. He gained 2,095 yards and ran for 21 touchdowns as a junior.

Camille LeNoir, one of the top point guards in the Southern Section and a member of The Times’ all-star team, has committed to Pepperdine.

LeNoir, a 5-6 senior, averaged 19.7 points with 7.6 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 steals for the Gauchos. She chose the Waves over USC and Notre Dame.

Senior Natalie Picchetti, who placed 24th in the national cross-country championships for San Antonio Reagan last year, has enrolled at Rancho Cucamonga following her family’s move to Southern California.

Picchetti, who was fifth in the 5-A Division final of the Texas state meet in May, has been unable to run for several weeks because of a stress fracture above her ankle, but Rancho Cucamonga Coach Mark Cushman hopes she will be able to start racing later this month or in October.
