Pluimer Drives San Clemente Girls’ Run

When 6-foot-3 senior forward Lindsey Pluimer of San Clemente set the school’s single-game girls’ basketball scoring record with 42 points on Tuesday, it came against Moreno Valley Canyon Springs, a team ranked ninth in the Southland by The Times and 13th in the state, not against an overmatched nonleague opponent.

Pluimer’s heroics in the Southern Section Division I-A semifinal set the stage for a third consecutive meeting in the title game between San Clemente (25-4), which is seeking a fourth consecutive championship, and second-seeded Newhall Hart (28-1). The Indians avenged their only loss of the season with a 52-42 victory over once-beaten Ventura in the other semifinal Tuesday as junior Ashlee Trebilcock scored 30 points and became Hart’s all-time leading scorer.

Before that game tips off at 8:15 at the Pyramid in Long Beach, there will be five other championship games.

Starting tonight’s evening session at 6:30, top-seeded and defending Division II state champion Fullerton Troy (29-1) will get a second look at third-seeded Norco (27-3) in the Division II-AA final. Troy defeated Norco, 63-49, in the final of the Murrieta Valley tournament with a strong inside presence and despite Erika Arriaran’s 21 points. Troy is ranked No. 4 in the Southland. Norco, fresh from its 70-62 victory over No. 10 Riverside North, is No. 16.

Capping today’s early session at 2:45 p.m. in the Division III-A final, second-seeded La Puente Bishop Amat (27-3) will try to beat Pasadena Muir (22-6) for the second time this season. The No. 11 Lancers defeated No. 25 Muir, 63-51, in the final of the Duarte tournament. Muir already avenged an earlier loss to top-seeded Fullerton Rosary in the semifinals.

Top-seeded Los Angeles Marlborough (25-3), ranked No. 21 behind the play of 6-3 Abi Olajuwon and guard Emily Tay, is a heavy favorite to beat Cerritos Valley Christian (23-6) in the Division IV-AA final at 1 p.m.

Newbury Park (17-7) will try to beat top-seeded and No. 19 Inglewood Morningside (28-3) at 11:15 a.m. If the Panthers and scoring star Brynn Cameron can do that, they will have beaten the division’s top three seeded teams.

An Olympic League showdown opens play today as top-seeded Downey Calvary Chapel (25-3) faces Los Angeles Brentwood (25-6) at 9:30 a.m. They split league games and shared the Olympic title with Cerritos Valley Christian.

In the City Championship final at 5 p.m. at the Sports Arena, Harbor City Narbonne (19-7) will try to become the first team in the section to win five consecutive titles, breaking a record shared with L.A. Washington. The No. 6 Gauchos play No. 22 L.A. Crenshaw (27-1), which has the Southland’s longest winning streak at 26 games.
