Child Shot in Mother’s Arms Near School
A 15-month-old boy was shot in the abdomen Wednesday as his mother carried him on a sidewalk across the street from an East Los Angeles school.
The child was listed in stable condition after surgery at an area hospital. The woman, who was on her way to Harrison Elementary to pick up her other children, was not hurt.
The incident occurred at 1:55 p.m. on City Terrace Drive. Officials said two suspected gang members chasing rivals on foot fired several rounds, one of which struck the boy. The suspects remain at large.
