Teams look to finish strong

The 2016 Little League District 62 All-Star Tournament is heading into its final weekend of action.

The final few days of the double-elimination event starts at 5 p.m. Thursday at the baseball fields at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley. An elimination game in the Little League All-Stars tournament is at 7:30 p.m. (Field 15, teams not known at press time). In the 10/11 tourney, Seaview will face Ocean View (Field 15). An elimination game in the 9/10 division (teams not known at press time) starts at 7:30 p.m. (Field 14). In the SuperStars division, Huntington Valley and Huntington West square off at 5 p.m. (Field 14).

Scores from All-Star games played Wednesday in Little League (Seaview vs. Ocean View) and 9/10 (Seaview vs. Huntington Valley) divisions, weren’t available at press time.

Division championship series start Saturday: Little League (10 a.m., Field 15), 10/11 (1 p.m. Field 15), 9/10 (1 p.m., Field 14), SuperStars (10 a.m., Field 14).

If needed, finals games will be played Sunday in the Little League (noon, Field 15), 9/10 (3 p.m., Field 14) and SuperStars (noon, Field 14) divisions.

Fountain Valley swept Ocean View (2-0) to win the district’s Junior All-Star championship.

Seaview 11, Huntington West 3: Home runs by Trevor DiSilva, Ethan Hennig and Conor Zeutizius helped Seaview win its tournament opener June 28. Dane Moorhead contributed a key double and Damon Kooiman took the pitching win and didn’t allow an earned run in 42/3 innings.

Seaview 13, Fountain Valley 2 (five innings): Trevor DiSilva hit a three-run home run in the first inning to get Seaview off to a quick start in the June 30 match-up. Jake Hoffer, Isaiah Seals and Nick Daniel had multiple hits to spark the Seaview offense. Dylan Richardson got the win behind four strong innings on the mound, and Ethan Hennig pitched a perfect fifth inning to end the game.

Seaview 26, Costa Mesa National 0: Josh Nowlin went three for four with a grand slam and had six RBIs, Jack Gradel two for three with a double and four RBIs, Nathan Hunter two for two with three RBIs, and pitchers Tyler Eastham (winner) and Nic Rowe combined for a no-hitter for Seaview.

Huntington Valley 11, Fountain Valley 2: Wyatt Thomas (three for four, two runs, two RBIs) and Bradley Morlett hit home runs, Gage Everson went two for four with two RBIs, Tanner Edson two for two with a triple and scored twice, and Tony Martinez struck out five in three scoreless innings to power Huntington Valley.

Seaview 10, Huntington West 0 (five innings): Seaview posted its second shutout in as many tournament games June 30. Josh Nowlin hit a lead-off home run to start the game, Devin DiSilva went three for four with a game-ending solo home run, and Jared Schnoor had a clutch, pinch hit sacrifice fly to right-field early in the game. Caden Clem pitched a complete-game three-hitter.
