With the sound of swimmers splashing in the nearby pool, catcher Tommy Beres of Sherman Oaks Notre must have received some inspiration. He crushed a pitch over the left-field fence for a three-run home run in the second inning on Saturday during the Knights’ 8-0 victory over Hart.

Beres played water polo in the fall and also scored a perfect 36 on the ACT. He did not take a swan dive to celebrate after rounding the bases.

Notre Dame (3-0) advances to the semifinals of the Easton tournament. The Knights once again displayed outstanding pitching. Sophomore Jack Snyder threw four shutout innings, striking out four in his varsity starting debut. Carter Kessinger, last year’s ace pitcher, threw three shutout innings with three strikeouts in his season debut.
