Baseball: Big day for Kennedy’s Rodriguez brothers
- Share via
Brothers Nick and Estevan Rodriguez of Granada Hills Kennedy could have been excused for feeling a little tired on Monday after running around the bases following consecutive inside-the-park home runs in the second inning, but their excitement carried them and Kennedy to an 8-1 victory over Granada Hills.
Estevan, a junior first baseman, went three for three. Nick, a senior shortstop, had a double and home run. Felix Rubi threw four shutout innings. Kennedy is 12-3.
“They’re carrying this team,” Coach Andy Rodriguez (no relation) said of the brothers.
Estevan is batting .474. Nick, one of the top defensive shortstops in the City Section, is hitting .333.
And for the brothers to hit back-to-back inside-the-park home runs at Kennedy to the identical spot in right-cneter field (Nick did the honors first) will be something for the family to remember forever.
In a nonleague game, San Fernando defeated Venice, 8-1. Kai Gomez, the son of San Fernando Coach Armando Gomez, threw five innings and also had two hits and two RBIs. He beat his father’s alma mater.
