Baseball: El Camino Real gets important win over Chatsworth in West Valley League

With numerous players back from last season’s City Section Division I championship team, El Camino Real thrives on pressure situations and there’s no game that brings out the best in the Conquistadores more than a West Valley League showdown against rival Chatsworth.

The Conquistadores jumped on starter Josh Garcia for four runs early, then had to hold off Chatsworth, 7-4. Brandon Bohning got a two-run single in the fifth to cut the deficit to 4-3.

Jose Campos had an RBI double and Eric Yang and Jake Baer added RBI singles for the early ECR lead. Dylan Hirsch finished with three hits. Matt Cassin had an RBI single during a three-run seventh.

Cleveland 3, Taft 0: The Cavaliers (20-1, 3-0) got another standout pitching performance from junior Sam Villa, who threw a one-hitter while striking out 10.

Birmingham 1, Granada Hills 0: Isaac Meza outdueled Dalton Lock in the West Valley League game.

JSerra 7, Santa Margarita 6: Chase Strumpf delivered an RBI single in the seventh to break a 6-6 tie and give JSerra the Trinity League victory. Kyle May, Royce Lewis, Micah Pries and Davis Wendzel all had two hits. Johnny Carr finished with three hits for Santa Margarita.

Servite 7, Mater Dei 5: The Friars got the Trinity League win. Aaron Simpson threw four effective innings of relief.

Orange Lutheran 5, St. John Bosco 0: Chris Burica (5-0) continued his domination of anybody and everybody with a six-hit shutout. He struck out seven and walked one. Nathan Flores had two hits.

Chaminade 1, Loyola 0: The Eagles stayed unbeaten on their home field with the Missin League win behind pitcher Reece Weinberg. Holden Groff gave up an unearned run in five innings for Loyola, which suffered its first league defeat.

Alemany 6, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 4: Clay Rickerman struck out five in the complete game. Brandon Lewis had a two-run home run and finished with three RBIs. Hunter Greene hit two home runs and finished with four RBIs for the Knights in the Mission League loss at Alemany.

Harvard-Westlake 5, St. Francis 1: Leo Kaplan had three RBIs and Ben Geiger pitched well in relief for the Wolverines in the Mission League win.

Marina 5, Huntington Beach 2: The Vikings knocked off No. 1 Huntington Beach for the second time this season in a Sunset League game. Jared Minor limited the Oilers to four hits in six innings before giving way to Riley Ohl for the save. Nick Pratto struck out seven in five innings. Steven Casas had two hits and two RBIs. Huntington Beach and Marina are tied for first place at 4-2.

Edison 10, Los Alamitos 8: Kaz Akamatsu threw two scoreless innings of relief for his second save. Kyler Arenado went three for four with four RBIs.

Foothill 4, El Dorado 3: Foothll (15-6) got a complete game from Carson Herrell. Jacob Manzur had two hits.

El Toro 10, Aliso Niguel 5: Matt Kincade had two hits and five RBIs to lead El Toro.

Esperanza 7, Yorba Linda 4: The Aztecs rallied from a 4-1 deficit. Steven Rodriguez had two hits and two RBIs. Haydon Nix hit a home run. Blake Schriever perfomed his closer role to perfection, striking out two in the seventh.

Bishop Amat 7, Palisades 1: Isaac Esqueda had two hits and two RBIs for Bishop Amat. Three Lancers pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts.

Moorpark 2, Royal 0: Travis Weston struck out five, walked one and threw a three-hitter to spark the Musketeers. Conner Chapman and Junior Sandoval had RBIs.

Simi Valley 6, Camarillo 0: Kody McLain struck out four and threw a three-hit shutout for the Pioneers. Andrew Devine and Cal Hodgins each had two hits.

Calabasas 9, Westlake 1: Grant Nechak threw a two-hitter. Parker Brahms had three hits.

Agoura 5, Newbury Park 0: Michael Weisberg struck out four and allowed three hits in the shutout. Jonny DeLuca, Tommy Tabek and Hayden Luff each had two hits for Agoura.

Oaks Christian 8, Thousand Oaks 0: Carson Rudd improved to 7-0, allowing one hit in six innings. Adam Kerner had a home run and three RBIs. Phil Quartararo aded two doubles and three RBIs. Oaks Christian is 14-4 and 6-1 in the Marmonte League.

Mira Costa 2, Palos Verdes 1: The Mustangs (14-2, 1-0) scored runs in the sixth and seventh to pull out the Bay League win. And Trevor Franklin escaped a bases loaded situation in the sixth. Matt Beserra had an RBI double. Alec Abdalah struck out seven for Palos Verdes.

Burroughs 11, Pasadena 0: Cal State Northridge commit Kyle Nicol, a sidearmer, struck out nine and allowed four hits to keep Burroughs unbeaten in the Pacific League. Jonathan Max hit a grand slam and finished with three hits and six RBIs.

Bellflower 7, Artesia 0: Eric Romo struck out four in the shutout.

West Ranch 11, Golden Valley 0: Jack Cunningham threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the Foothill League game. Alex Lee had two hits and three RBIs.

Canyon Country Canyon 7, Saugus 3: The Cowboys won the Foothill League game.

Hart 5, Valencia 4: The Indians handed Valencia its first Foothill League defeat. Ben Fariss had a two-run home run for Valencia. Grant Thuente and Danny Cervantes had two hits apiece for Hart.

Corona Santiago 3, Corona 2: Manny Perez struck out seven in nine innings for Santiago. Jeremiah Priddy struck out seven in seven innings for Corona.

Temescal Canyon 4, Lakeside 3: Tyler Hardman hit a two-run home run, his fourth of the season, to lift Temescal Canyon in a Sunbelt League game.

Mission Viejo 4-2, Capistrano Valley 1-3: Jake Spillane threw the complete game, allowing four hits, in the first game win for Mission Viejo. In the second game, Zak Herbers struck out nine in five innings for Capistrano Valley.

Dana Hills 5, Trabuco Hills 0: Hans Crouse struck out 11 in 6 1/3 innings. Jeremy Ciolek had three hits and three RBIs.

South Hills 8, Glendora 0: Hayden Petrovick threw a one-hitter for six innings. John Dearth hit a three-run home run.

Quartz Hill 12, Eastside 2: Dawson Dimon had three RBIs in the Golden League victory.

Sun Valley Poly 12, Chavez 2: Marcos Garcia had two hits and three RBIs to help the Parrots improve to 7-0 in the East Valley League.

Cypress 8, Tustin 7: Dominic Fletcher delivered a two-run, game-winning walk-off home run for Cypress in the 11th inning. Isaak Gutierrez and Aaron Lizarraga each had three hits.

La Mirada 12, Cerritos 0: R.J. Lan hit two home runs and had seven RBIs for La Mirada.
