Baseball: Oaks Christian opens up coaching position

Share

Tim Penprase, who guided Oaks Christian to the co-Marmonte League baseball championship after briefly threatening to leave the program, will have to re-apply to be the head coach after the school opened up the position for others to apply on Tuesday.

Penprase resigned, then came back this past season after the school administration backed off from making him change his coaching staff after alleged complaints from parents.

In a news release, the school statement said, “This past season we began the prcoess of evaluating the Oak’s baseball program and this is continuation of that process,” said Head of School Rob Black.

Black thanked Penprase for his success and leadership.

According to the release, “A key goal of Oaks Christian athletics is the development of programs that not only achieve success in skills and development and excellence on the field but in building an athlete’s character that will serve these young men and women well in life beyond their high school sports careers. Oaks Christian baseball, in its second season in the large school Marmonte League, has been very competitive and finished this year as the league champion.”

Penprase, when reached Tuesday night, said, “Essentially they determined they are accepting applications to the position and I’m welcome to apply. I’m proud of what we’ve done there, and I think it’s a little bit bizarre.”

Penprase said he did not know if he would apply for a position he has held for eight seasons.

My opinion: This is utter nonsense. Some parents didn’t like things and a change was made. Welcome to 2016.
