Boys’ basketball: Chino Hills cruises to 122-102 win over Rancho Cucamonga

As if high scoring games in football weren’t enough, now basketball is starting to join the crowd. Chino Hills and Rancho Cucamonga engaged in a fan’s delight on Thursday night in the Inland Empire Classic.

When the buzzer sounded, Chino Hills had a 122-102 victory. Bishop Mency scored 26 points, LiAngelo Ball 24 and Mark Williams 22 for Chino Hills. Victor Joseph led Rancho Cucamonga with 31 points.

Compton defeated Los Osos, 78-64. Isaiah Bailey scored 27 points. Etiwanda defeated Corona Santiago, 59-31. Kameron Edwards had 21 points. Compton will face Etiwanda on Friday at Colony at 6 p.m.

In the North Orange County tournament, Downey (7-1) upset Mayfair, 59-54. Jacob Garcia scored 24 points and Sal Carlos had 20 points. Anaheim Canyon improved to 8-0 after a 68-64 win over Damien. Anthony Ballestero scored 21 points. Malik Fitts led Damien (7-1) with 19 points. Sonora defeated Orange Lutheran, 57-52, and will face La Mirada in the other semifinal. CJ Hankins had 16 points for Orange Lutheran.

In Las Vegas, Maleke Haynes made a three-pointer with four seconds left to give Woodland Hills El Camino Real a 58-55 win over Bountiful. Haynes finished with 20 points and Kelton Conway had 17. Santa Ana Mater Dei defeated Las Vegas Clark, 72-58. Stanley Johnson had 34 points and 11 rebounds. Long Beach Poly was beaten by Valor Christian, 67-65. Chris Sullivan scored 21 points. Redondo defeated Portland Central Catholic, 63-46.

Corona Centennial defeated Pleasant Grove, 88-66, in Sacramento. Deontae North had 32 points and 10 rebounds.

At the Mission Prep tournament, Crespi advanced to the semifinals with a 75-58 victory over Colorado Chaparral. Max Heidegger had 24 points and DJ Ursery 16. Inglewood defeated Campbell Hall, 54-51. Aaron Holiday scored 28 points for Campbell Hall.

Atascadero defeated Maranatha, 60-59. Nick Springer made 10 three-pointers and had 30 points for Maranatha.

Sierra Canyon improved to 10-0 with a 67-41 win over Flintridge Prep. Jamani Spencer scored 15 points. Ira Lee and Terrence McBride had 14 apiece.

Trabuco Hills suffered a 63-62 loss to San Diego St. Augustine when San Diego State-bound Trey Kell made a basket with 20 seconds left. Kyle Grepo and Brandon Fagins had 16 and 12 points, respectively.

Schurr defeated Crean Lutheran, 73-63. Michael Ortega scored 19 points.
