Boys’ basketball: Eyassu Worku scores 35 points in Los Alamitos victory

Los Alamitos turned to standout guard Eyassu Worku, a UC Irvine signee, to take down Orange Lutheran on Tuesday night.

Worku finished with 35 points in a 71-61 victory at El Toro. Pepe Garcia also made major contributions with 21 points for Los Alamitos, which improved to 9-2. Orange Lutheran dropped to 8-2. KaVaughn Scott had 19 points for the Lancers.

Crespi and Village Christian advanced to the championship game of the San Fernando Valley Invitational with semifinal victories.

De’Anthony Melton scored 25 points in Crespi’s 69-55 win over Trinity Classical. Noah Peterson scored 23 points for Trinity. The Celts played without Brandon Williams (injury). Village Christian defeated Saugus, 74-65. Josh Caston contributed 26 points and Isaac Etter added 21. Crespi will play Village Christian on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Granada Hills.

In a consolation game, St. John Bosco (8-1) defeated Canyon Country Canyon, 65-60, while coming back from an 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Alpha Okoli had 22 points. Kaden Young made eight threes and had 38 points in Simi Valley’s 99-52 win over Newbury Park.

In the Mission Prep tournament, David Singleton scored 21 points in Bishop Montgomery’s 77-49 win over Immanuel. Dorsey defeated Gardena Serra, 56-51. Tommie Groce had 16 points and 12 rebounds.

In the Oaks Christian tournament, Burroughs defeated Cleveland, 87-44. Angelo Solis had 25 points.

Lawndale defeated Hawthorne, 63-61. Eric Willis scored 17 points and AJ Gipson had 16.

In Hawaii, Fairfax improved to 8-1 with a 44-40 win over Lone Peak. Freshman Ethan Anderson scored 13 points, Babacar Thiombane had 12 points and Jamal Hartwell 10.
