Boys’ basketball: L.A. Windward players show you can win without being held back

Share

In an era where lots of basketball players are being held back or repeating grades before they reach high school, L.A. Windward’s top players are still young for their grades and excelling. The Wildcats have advanced to the Division 4A championship game.

Their starting point guard, Jalen Harris, is 14 years old. He turns 15 at the end of the month. He skipped a grade early because he was so smart, then repeated eighth grade. Sophomore Breland Brandt is 15 and turns 16 in May. Junior Roman Davis is 16 and doesn’t turn 17 until June. And junior Roy Hemsley will celebrate his 17th birthday on Tuesday.

Of course, the Windward players might need a driver or two to help them get around until they’re old enough to get a license.
