Boys’ basketball: Orange Lutheran stays unbeaten behind KaVaughn Scott

Orange Lutheran improved to 6-0 on Tuesday night with a 78-57 victory over Birmingham in a first-round game of the Beverly Hills tournament.

The Lancers used an effective fastbreak, strong defense and terrific interior play by KaVaughn Scott, who had 17 points, including four dunks.

Zac Jarvis added 19 points. For Birmingham, junior Devante Doutrive had 32 points. He missed nine free throws, but his offensive scoring potential will make him very tough to stop in City Section play later in the season.

Washington defeated Brentwood, 47-44. Cantwell-Sacred Heart defeated Leuzinger, 55-35. Jacob Davison scored 23 points.

In the Sierra Canyon tournament, Riley Battin scored 28 points and had 20 rebounds in Oak Park’s 66-47 victory over St. Genevieve.

Sierra Canyon defeated Granada Hills, 80-32. Ira Lee finished with 13 points and Remy Martin 12. Westlake defeated Valencia, 52-38. Alex Schilling had 15 points. Alemany defeated Calabasas, 72-61. Brandon Davis and Earnie Sears each had 20 points and Shacquille Dawkins added 18. Ryan Murphy led Calabasas with 15 points.

In the University touranment, Bernstein defeated View Park, 78-70. Buckley defeated New Designs, 70-56. St. Monica defeated Los Angeles, 67-55.

In the Corona del Mar tournament, Compton defeated Irvine University, 79-73. Javonntie Jackson scored 28 points. Mater Dei (3-0) defeated Dominguez, 65-39. Justice Sueing had 12 points and Spencer Freedman 10.

Viewpoint defeated Sylmar, 78-56. Christian Juzang had 22 points. Michael Okparaocha added 16 points and eight rebounds.

Burroughs defeated Santa Clara, 83-19. Tristen Hull had 20 points.

Highland defeated Antelope Valley, 83-40, in its Golden League opener. Deshay Gipson had 30 points. K.J. Warren added 17 points and 14 rebounds.

David Rowlands scored 29 points in Moorpark’s 62-53 win over Newbury Park.

Rancho Cucamonga defeated West Covina, 76-59. Darius Vines had 23 points in St. Bonaventure’s 59-50 win over Oxnard. Camarillo defeated Buena, 63-54.

In the Pasadena Poly tournament, San Marino defeated Ribet, 59-53, in overtime. Sophomore Chuma Azinge finished with 20 points.
