Boys’ basketball: Palisades defeats Fairfax in Western League opener

You can throw out Palisades’ 7-6 record in nonleague games. All that matters is that the Dolphins were ready for their Western League opener on Monday night, rallying for a 67-66 victory over Fairfax. Joseph Robinson made a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Robinson scored 20 points, Louis Kurihara and Aaron Johnson each had 12 points. Olisaemeka Nwachie led Fairfax with 16 points and Pierson Ro had 14.

University won its league opener with a 69-50 win over LACES. C.J. Sinada had 24 points, making six threes.

In a huge nonleague game, L.A. Cathedral (9-1) knocked off red-hot Price, 82-80. Cathedral is ranked No. 2 in the Southern Section 3A behind Chaminade and plays Cantwell-Sacred Heart in a road game on Friday night. Chandler Redix scored 20 points.

In the Mission League, Harvard-Westlake held off St. Francis, 64-63, despite 31 points by Kyle Leufroy. Derick Newton led Harvard-Westlake with 23 points and Alex Copeland had 15.

In the Marmonte League, Westlake stayed in first place at 13-6 and 5-0 with a 78-58 win over Moorpark. Marcos Soto had 15 points and Clark Nelson and Isaiah Brooks added 12 apiece. Calabasas defeated Simi Valley, 76-68. Jeremy Lieberman and Larry Bush each scored 20 points.

Buckley improved to 21-0 with an 80-37 win over Blair. Chase Holliday scored 26 points, making six threes. Andrew Schiantarelli had 22 points.
