CJ Clark came off the bench to make four of six shots from three-point range and finish with 20 points to help Riverside North (27-4) defeat Long Beach Poly, 61-58, in the Southern Section Division 1AA championship game at Honda Center on Saturday.
Clark made two free throws with 11.3 seconds left. Poly called a timeout with 7.7 seconds left to set up a final play but the Jackrabbits failed to execute on their out of bounds play. It was the fourth title for North Coach Mike Bartee and denited Poly a bid to win its 21st second title.
North received a strong interior game from Christian Gray, who had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Deshaun Higher added 13 points and Dikymbe Martin had 11 points and five assists.
North made seven of 14 shots from three-point range, a big accomplishment in an arena where teams have been known to shoot poorly.
Zafir Williams scored 21 points for Poly. Sophomore Darryl Polk Jr. had three consecutive baskets in the fourth quarter to rally Poly.
