Boys’ basketball: Santa Monica Coach James Hecht is smiling

I don’t think the smile has left the face of Santa Monica Coach James Hecht ever since his players delivered a Southern Section 1A championship last season. And there’s more smiling to come.

Hecht has a guard duo that should be one of the best for underclassmen. Junior Nuwr’iyl Williams has picked up scholarship offers from Louisville, Oregon, Colorado and St. John’s, among others. Sophomore Jonah Mathews, the brother of Cal guard Jordan Mathews, showed in the summer he has big-time scoring skills.

The Vikings play Loyola in a scrimmage on Nov. 26 at home.
