CIF, private schools continue to seek agreement on lawsuits
- Share via
Court documents in the federal lawsuits filed by St. Bonaventure, Oaks Christian, St. Lucy’s and Damien against the CIF Southern Section indicate that a mediation attempt failed in November but discussions are continuing and there appears to be an attempt to seek binding arbitration.
The schools are challenging the Southern Section decision to place them in the parochial area for the next re-leaguing cycle beginning in 2014-15. The schools and the CIF are hoping something can be resolved by early next year.
Lots of schools are awaiting a final decision, because new leagues have already been formed and football teams are starting to schedule games for 2014 not knowing if the leagues will need to be changed.
If a successful mediation or arbitration doesn’t happen, a jury trial has been scheduled for May 27, 2014. If that happens, both sides will have to spend lots of money in attorney fees.
