City Section roundup: Washington gets past University

In the opening round of the City Section Division I playoffs No. 7 Washington held off No. 10 University, 56-53, on Friday night. Darnell Bettis had 17 points for University.

No. 1 Westchester cruised past South East, 75-13. Myles Stewart and Cameron Young each scored 14 points. No. 2 El Camino Real defeated Arleta, 90-37. Kelton Conway scored 13 points. No. 3 Fairfax defeated Birmingham, 87-58. Donald Gipson scored 29 points and had 13 rebounds. No. 4 Narbonne defeated Crenshaw, 68-43. Ucheena Okeneme and Reverend Maduakor each had 18 points.

Dorsey routed Taft, 71-49. Fremont defeated Cleveland, 77-59. Craig Moody scored 16 points and had 14 rebounds. Marquis McKinzy added 15 points.

In Division II, No. 1 Sylmar defeated Santee, 88-32. Devenir Duruisseau scored 30 points. Poly defeated Angelou, 61-53. Granada Hills defeated Reseda, 51-38. Jason Horosny scored 22 points.

Verdugo Hills defeated RFK, 83-39. Adrian Gutierrez finished with 25 points and 21 rebounds. South Gate defeated Venice, 78-73. Gerardo Zavala had 23 points and 16 rebounds. Joshua Conde added 18 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter to rally South Gate from an 11-point deficit.
