Football: Bishop Gorman getting ready for its annual Southern California tests

Las Vegas Bishop Gorman could fit right into the Trinity League. The Gaels love playing teams from Southern California and a bus trip from Las Vegas isn’t too bad.
This season, Long Beach Poly and Servite are making the trip to Las Vegas to face the Gaels, who are 3-0 and ranked No. 1 in the nation by several publications after winning last year’s mythical national championship with wins over St. John Bosco, Corona Centennial, Santa Margarita and Servite.
Poly (2-0) gets the first crack at Bishop Gorman on Friday. Kenny Sanchez, the brother of new UNLV Coach Tony Sanchez, has taken over as head coach with little disruption.
It comes down to stopping and containing Bishop Gorman junior quarterback Tate Martell, a Texas A&M commit whose ability to scramble causes trouble for lots of defenses. Junior receiver Tyjon Lindsey is Poly’s version of Jack Jones.
Gone is Snoop Dogg’s son, Calvin Broadus, but running back Biaggio Walsh is the grandson of boxing great Muhammad Ali.
Poly has had two weeks to prepare for Bishop Gorman after rallying to defeat a good Narbonne team, 20-17. Florida State commit Malik Henry, a senior quarterback, was cleared on Monday by the Southern Section to play for the Jackrabbits after practicing since last month. He played last season for Westlake.
