Football: Cathedral vs. Salesian has fans excited

You know it’s a big game when supporters of L.A. Cathedral and L.A. Salesian have both created their own promo videos to hype the game.

Saturday’s Angelus League game at L.A. Southwest College is set for a 3 p.m. start. Cathedral is 5-0; Salesian is 2-3. It’s the first time in 14 years the two schools located near downtown Los Angeles are playing in football.

Cathedral Coach Kevin Pearson is trying to make it just another game. The Phantoms showed their potential by routing Dorsey two weeks ago. Sophomore quarterback Andrew Tovar has exceeded expectations. There was real worry when the expected starter, MC Poe, moved to Houston, but Tovar, known for his intelligence, stepped right in and has passed for 20 touchdowns in five games.

Cameron Haney is living up to expectations as a receiver and defensive back.

“He’s so physical on defense,” Pearson said.

Salesian will have to get its running game going behind sophomore Deommodore Lenoir.

Fans of both schools are looking forward to the game.
