Football: Chaminade-Oaks Christian, Edison-Servite set for showdowns

Thursday night will offer high school football fans two terrific matchups: Chaminade at Oaks Christian (Fox Sports West, 7 p.m.) and Servite vs. Edison at Orange Coast College, 7:30 p.m. All four teams are ranked in The Times’ top 25.

It will be Miami-bound quarterback Brad Kaaya of Chaminade taking on Arizona-bound quarterback Brandon Dawkins of Oaks Christian. The big question all week has been how many points will be required to win the game? Chaminade (2-1) has scored 57, 55 and 56 points. Oaks Christian (3-0) has scored 51, 57 and 49 points.

Oaks Christian defeated Venice, 49-39. Chaminade defeated Venice, 57-33. Oaks Christian receiver Chris Davis and running back D.J. Riggins have been fantastic. Chaminade receiver Dymond Lee and and running backs Cory Watkins and Donovan Lee have been just as good. It’s going to come down to turnovers and execution. And the first one to 51 points might win.

Servite (2-1), under first-year Coach A.J. Gass, has got its offense in high gear, with quarterback Travis Waller leading the way. The Friars are spreading around the ball and getting lots of players involved. Edison’s defense has been very solid and will offer a good test. Edison junior quarterback Matthew Gane has had two weeks to prepare for the Friars. Edison is 2-0.

It will be Servite’s final game before the Friars take on Concord De La Salle on Oct. 5 at Santa Ana Bowl.
