Football: Crenshaw’s Robert Garrett says, ‘We’ve just been getting lucky’

It was vintage Robert Garrett on Monday morning. The Crenshaw coach said of his team, “We’ve just been getting lucky.”
Yeah, right.
In winning seven consecutive games, Crenshaw (8-4) outscored its Coliseum League opponents, 265-0, and has won its two City Section Division I playoff games, 83-0, and 58-12.
“We’re just trying to get better,” Garrett said.
Against Dorsey last week, quarterback Ajene Harris rushed for 134 yards and scored three touchdowns and completed 10 of 13 passes for 146 yards. Michael Simmons caught seven passes for 120 yards. Jacob Knight rushed for 95 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Next up is a semifinal home game against Venice on Friday night.
“Those guys are hungry,” Garrett said of the Gondoliers. “They’re well-coached, their line is big, their quarterback is the greatest, their defense is tenacious . . . We hope they keep the score down.”
Crenshaw wasn’t pleased that it didn’t get the No. 1 seed and is trying to prove otherwise.
