It has been an up and down season for Encino Crespi and first-year Coach Troy Thomas, but with one week to go in the regular season, the Celts still control their own destiny.

“This is when we play the best football _ when it matters at the end of the year,” Thomas said.

If Crespi (4-5, 2-1) can defeat Alemany (7-2, 2-1) on Friday at Alemany, the Celts will finish in a tie for first place in the Serra League with Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and earn a Pac-5 Division playoff berth. If Alemany wins, the Warriors will share the league title with Notre Dame and enter as the No. 1 seed from the league because of a win over Notre Dame.

Crespi pulled out a 37-30 win over Bishop Amat on Friday behind running back T.J. Brumfield, who rushed for 186 yards in 17 carries and scored three touchdowns.
