Football: Garfield-Venice this week offers City Section insight
The top City Section teams have been playing their Southern Section counterparts in recent weeks, but there’s an influential City Section matchup on Friday night in Garfield (1-2) taking on Venice (1-2) at Garfield that should reveal plenty about both teams.
Garfield has lost to St. Bonaventure and Huntington Beach Edison. Venice has lost to Chaminade and Oaks Christian and was within 35-33 of Oaks Christian before losing, 49-39.
Garfield got back on track on Friday with a 42-19 win over Washington Prep. Ty’Jon Delancy rushed for 222 yards in 29 carries and scored three touchdowns.
Venice played tough against unbeaten Oaks Christian before falling, 49-39.
