Football: Harvard-Westlake waits to see availability of QB Marshal Cohen
Harvard-Westlake’s 2013 season started with so much promise and the emergence of sophomore quarterback Marshal Cohen as a top player. But Cohen, who started seven games, went down with a torn anterior cruiciate ligament in his knee and underwent surgery. The Wolverines never recovered from his absence.
The big question for 2014 is when Cohen will be back? He passed for 827 yards and ran for 583 yards, including 121 yards in an upset of Loyola.
“He’s doing rehab,” Coach Scot Ruggles said. “He’s working hard.”
But Ruggles declined to say when Cohen will be cleared to return to the field.
For the first time in years, Harvard-Westlake will have more than 20 seniors on its roster set to play in a new Mission League made up of Salesian, Cathedral, St. Paul, St. Francis and La Salle. Players have started lifting weights at 6 a.m., something new for a school that focuses on academics.
Three of the Wolverines’ top players this fall should be receiver Hassan Smith, linebacker Desmond Butler and running back Garrett Robinson.
