Football: Jaylon Redd leads a surging Rancho Cucamonga to prominence

Share

Santa Ana Mater Dei, Corona Centennial, St. John Bosco and Mission Viejo are considered the teams to beat in Southern Section Division 1 football, but don’t forget about surging Rancho Cucamonga (4-0).

Jaylon Redd, a heavily recruited defensive back, is proving to be quite a running back. He’s had four consecutive games of more than 100 yards rushing. There was 151 yards against Chaparral; 138 yards against Norco; 155 against Don Lugo, and 166 yards against Murrieta Valley.

“He’s pretty dominant,” Coach Nick Baiz said. “He’s explosive. He’s hitting the holes and getting some good chunks.”

Rancho Cucamonga has four defensive backs with Pac-12 offers _ Redd, Thomas Graham, Tayari Venable and Darren Hall.

And the Cougars are about to get a lot stronger. Four players who transferred to Upland, then Corona Centennial and are now at Rancho Cucamonga are expected to become eligible on Oct. 10. Three play defense and another on offense.

So down the road, remember about Rancho Cucamonga.

“I dont know where we stack up, but we’ll find out before too long,” Baiz said.
