Football: Quarterback transfer lifts Harvard-Westlake

Share

Athletic officials at Harvard-Westlake say they can’t remember the Wolverines ever beating rival Los Angeles Loyola in a football game.

Then came Friday night, when sophomore quarterback Marshal Cohen, a transfer from Brentwood making his varsity debut, passed for 121 yards and ran for 131 yards in a 27-21 victory over the Cubs.

Cohen was the JV quarterback as a freshman at Brentwood. Harvard-Westlake doesn’t take many transfers, but the Wolverines let in Cohen, who practiced all summer with the team.

“You never know what to expect,” Harvard-Westlake Coach Scot Ruggles said. “He looked like a senior.”

Harvard-Westlake came through with two blocked punts to spoil the debut of first-year Loyola Coach Marvin Sanders and thrill a large crowd of Harvard-Westlake fans.
