Football: Sherman Oaks Notre Dame players experience Navy SEAL training
When Sherman Oaks Notre Dame football players arrived at 8 a.m. last week on a bus trip to the beach in Malibu, a man boarded and told them in a pleasant voice, “Take your time getting off.”
Then he shouted, “You got 30 seconds! But take your time!”
It was a half day of Nike-sponsored Navy SEAL training, and by the end, when players were back on the bus in the afternoon, let’s just say the trip home was very quiet, since many of the players were exhausted.
“There’s a lot of things that can be learned about mental toughness,” Coach Kevin Rooney said of the training.
Rooney probably won’t have to worry about any players complaining about running too much in practice in the fall, since the players found out what a tough drill really is.
