Football: Sitout period players make immediate impact

After missing the first six weeks of the football season because of CIF transfer rules, lots of players made their season debuts this past weekend, and the wait was worth it for some.

San Fernando (7-0) got stronger with the addition of Jalen Fischer-Davis, a transfer from Verdugo Hills. He had an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Orlando Garcia, a defensive lineman who transferred from Sun Valley Poly, had two sacks and eight tackles.

Brayden Lenius, a transfer from Canada, caught a touchdown pass for Chaminade.

St. John Bosco unveiled 310-pound tackle Zach Robertson from Mayfair. He saw some minutes on the offensive line. Running back Michael Ray, a transfer from L.A. Cathedral, displayed good running skils.

At Sylmar, sophomore safety Malik Martin, a transfer from Littlerock, forced two fumbles. Sophomore running back Marcus Gandy, a transfer from Granada Hills Kennedy, rushed for 89 yards.

Sophomore Davir Hamilton, a transfer from Gahr, rushed for 203 yards and two touchdowns for Verbum Dei in a loss to La Salle.
