Lacrosse: Loyola wins L.A. championship on OT goal by Sean Smith
There was drama, excitement and a major celebration by Loyola High lacrosse players on Wednesday night when the Cubs pulled out a 7-6 overtime win over top-seeded Palos Verdes in the Los Angeles championship game at Mira Costa High.
Sean Smith scored the winning goal and finished with four of his team’s seven goals.
Loyola advances to play the Orange County champion, Corona del Mar, on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Placentia Valencia. Corona del Mar defeated St. Margaret’s, 11-9.
Oak Park won the girls’ L.A. title with a 13-8 win over Redondo. Oak Park will play Santa Ana Mater Dei for the girls’ overall title on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Placentia Valencia.
