Sportsmanship can still be found amid rivalries

Share

Rivalries are fun to watch and participate in. Teams and fans want to win so badly, and sometimes sportsmanship is forgotten.

Not at Wednesday’s neighborhood baseball showdown between Huntington Beach and Edison.

In the sixth inning, Huntington Beach’s Daniel Amaral hit a fly ball to left field. Edison’s Nick Mailman made a running catch, taking away a potential double from Amaral, and hit his head running into the fence for the third out of the inning.

As Amaral went to left field, he shook hands with Mailman. They are friends.

It was a scene that offered a great lesson about the value of sports competition and friendship.
