Junior distance standout Marissa Williams of Palisades became the first female in City Section history to win the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 at Wednesday’s City Section track and field championships at Birmingham High.

It was the equivalent of what Roman Gomez of Belmont pulled off in winning the same three events in 1985 in the boys’ competition.

Williams first won the 1,600 in 4:57.88. Then she won the 800 in 2:15.75. She ended her challenging night winning the 3,200 in 10:49.72.

“I’m happy, but I’m glad it’s over,” said Williams, who said she planned to go home, take a shower and study for a physics exam to keep her grade-point average above 4.0. “My coach made me do all three. I’d rather had broken a record in the mile and two-mile.”

She plans to run only the 1,600 and 3,200 at next week’s state championships.

Ashley Anderson of Carson set a City record in winning the girls’ triple jump at 40-4 1/2.

In the boys’ competition, Carson’s Justin Collins won the 110 highs in 14.39 and the 300 hurdles in 39.41. Carson’s Brandon Hasson won the 100 in 10.82. Dorsey’s Daniel Lawson took the 400 in 47.81 and the 200 in 21.67.

The girls’ team title came down to the 1,600-meter relay. Carson won the relay and El Camino Real finished fourth. That gave Carson the girls’ title, 89-88, over El Camino Real.

Carson won the boys’ team title, with Dorsey finishing second.
