Chapman to Meet Improved Cal State L.A.
For the last two years, the outcome of a Chapman College-Cal State Los Angeles basketball game was about as predictable as the sunrise. Chapman had the best record in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. during that span (22-6), and the Golden Eagles possessed the worst (5-23).
But tonight’s CCAA opener in Chapman’s Hutton Sports Center (7:30) between the Panthers and the Golden Eagles shapes up as a competitive game. Chapman is 8-4 this season, and Cal State L.A. is 7-5.
The Panthers have four scorers in double figures, led by forwards Jerry Ross and Johnny Williams, who both average 12 points a game. Guard Sam Veal paces the Golden Eagle attack, averaging 21 points per game.
