Freeway League : Mash’s Two-Run Homer Gives Troy a 3-2 Victory

John Mash’s two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday gave Troy High School a 3-2 win over Buena Park in a Freeway League game at Troy.

Junior right-hander Mike Greer pitched a complete game one-hitter and struck out 12 to get the win for the Warriors. Greer retired the side in order in five innings and struck out the side in the third.

Losing pitcher Reggie Brown had retired the first two Troy hitters in the seventh before Steve Woods singled. Mash then followed with his sixth home run of the season on a 1-1 pitch.

Woods and Rick Dymond each had two hits for Troy.

In other Freeway League action:

Sunny Hills 5, Fullerton 4--Sunny Hills broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the fourth inning, and the first-place Lancers held on to beat host Fullerton for their fifth straight win.

The key hit in the fourth was Russell Frederick’s two-run single. Paul Abbott led off the fifth with his third home run of the season to extend his hitting streak to 17.

Mike Wilson (3-1) got the win for Sunny Hills, and Bryan Olynyk picked up the save.

Sonora 13, La Habra 8--The Raiders scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to turn a four-run lead (6-2) into a 13-2 lead on their way to the win at La Habra. The Highlanders scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to make the score respectable.

Brian Miller, who went 2 for 2 with four RBIs, highlighted the seventh with a three-run double. David Bird went 6 innings and struck out nine to earn the victory. Sonora benefitted from 13 walks issued by two La Habra pitchers.
