Southern California College named Dennis Rogers, former minor league manager, as the school’s baseball coach Tuesday, replacing Rich Emard, who resigned earlier this summer.

Rogers, 33, was manager of the Oakland A’s Class-A affiliate in Medford, Ore., where he had a 143-63 record (.703 winning percentage), before accepting the position at the Costa Mesa school.

A former minor league player for the San Francisco Giants, Rogers was also previously an assistant coach at San Bernardino Valley College and Cal Poly Pomona, of which he is a 1976 graduate.

Rogers, an all-Ivy League selection when he played at Rubidoux High School in Riverside in the early ‘70s, became coach at John W. North High School in Riverside as well as at San Gorgonio, before moving on to the college level.

Though he currently resides at Lake Arrowhead, Rogers expects to move to Orange County before officially assuming his coaching duties in January.

At SCC, Rogers will have a one-year contract, renewable each year at the option of the school.
