Trabuco Hills Loses, 18-12, on Blocked Punt
A blocked punt recovered for a touchdown in the fourth quarter gave Capistrano Valley Christian High School an 18-12 nonleague win over Trabuco Hills in Mission Viejo Stadium Saturday night.
That punt, blocked at the 10 and then recovered in the end zone by linebacker Keith Patefield, helped the Eagles (1-1) overcome a 12-10 deficit with 9:51 left to play.
Quarterback James Helmuth found halfback Todd Rodarmel open in the end zone for the two-point conversion pass.
Trabuco Hills (0-2) had taken the lead in the third quarter behind one-yard touchdown runs by Ray Walters and Brian Gadbury, but it could not mount an effective drive after the blocked punt, spoiling the Mustangs’ home debut.
Capistrano Valley Christian took a 10-0 lead at the half on a 4-yard touchdown pass play from Helmuth to Tim Day and a 28-yard field goal by Helmuth.
