Cinnamon Williams of Southern California Christian High School in Anaheim, a Volleyball Monthly All-American, and Daiva Tomkus of Chaminade in Canoga Park, an All-Southern Section pick, have signed letters of intent to play for the UCLA women’s volleyball team next season.

The USC women’s volleyball team landed Yleana Carrasco of Anaheim, who also is one of the top prep high jumpers in the country, as well as Jill Daniels of Irvine Woodbridge and Kathy Rich of Buffalo, N.Y.

Pepperdine signed Pam Lawrence, a transfer from Hawaii who played for Corona del Mar; Tami Seidenberg of New York City, Laura Fort of Santa Ana Mater Dei, Laura Power of Newport Beach Newport Harbor, and Valerie Foley of Laguna Beach.

Carolyn Janisch of Long Beach Wilson, Sue Olszewski of Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World, and Alison Wood of Rolling Hills said they will go to UC Irvine.

Three volleyball players from Manhattan Beach Mira Costa, which went undefeated and won the state and mythical national championships, will end up at Division I schools. They are Lindsey Hahn, the Southern Section 5-A player of the year who will attend Arizona; Melissa McNally, who signed with Colorado State, and Jill Horning, who picked UC Santa Barbara.

Hawaii signed Tonya Williams of St. Joseph of Lakewood.

Football player John Hardy, an All-Southern Section pick at defensive back from Coastal Conference champion Pasadena John Muir, signed with Cal Wednesday after having made an oral commitment to Colorado. Still, it was a successful recruiting year for the Buffaloes in Southern California.

“This is by far the best we’ve done in Southern California,” Coach Bill McCartney said. “But it’s also a tribute to the Southern California kids already on our roster. They have a large impact on our recruiting. They have had a positive experience in Boulder, so it’s easier to get the next player out of that area.”

Meanwhile, running backs Terry Rodgers and Pierre Goode and linebacker Melvin Foster, three of the top football prospects in the country, remain unsigned.

Rodgers, from National City Sweetwater, said Thursday that he is still considering USC, Texas and Nebraska. Goode, of Town Creek, Ala., is looking at the Trojans and Alabama. Foster, of Houston, the top prospect in Texas, said he will make an announcement tonight, choosing either Oklahoma State or Iowa.
