Top Seeds Reach Semifinals in San Diego Open Volleyball
The top-seeded team of Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos was one of four pairs to advance Saturday into the semifinals of the Jose Cuervo San Diego Open beach volleyball tournament.
Smith and Stoklos, both of Santa Monica, the tournament’s defending champions, defeated Dan Vrabalovich and Larry Mear, 15-5, and will meet Brent Frohoff and Scott Ayakatubby in a semifinal match today.
Also advancing into the semifinal round was the team of Tim Hovland and Mike Dodd, the reigning Cuervo world champions. Hovland and Dodd defeated Tim Walmer and Al Janc, 15-6, Saturday and will face Eric Wurts and Dana McFarland.
The two semifinal winners will square off in the finals later Sunday. The tournament champions will split a $5,600 first prize.
